Increased use of renewable energy – construction of a solar power plant at Vestienas iela 35, Riga
As a sustainably responsible company, Riga Municipality Limited Liability Company (SIA) Rīgas satiksme continues its efforts to further promote the use of renewable resources for its core business – increasing the amount of electricity generated from renewable energy sources and reducing CO2 emissions to the benefit of society as a whole.
On 2 April 2025, Riga Municipality Limited Liability Company (SIA) Rīgas satiksme and SIA Vides investīciju fonds signed Contract No. EKII-3.1/13 for the implementation of the project “Increased use of renewable energy – construction of a solar power plant at Vestienas iela 35, Riga”.
The aim of the project is to use solar energy technologies on the territory of the bus route 7 park, Vestienas iela 35, Riga, by constructing a solar power plant on the roof of the building. The operation and current data on the amount of energy generated by the solar power plant will be monitored remotely. The energy generated will be used for the basic operations of the bus route 7 park.
As a result of the project, it is planned to:
- generate 84.15 MWh/year of electricity;
- reduce CO2 emissions by 9172 kg CO2/year.
The total cost of the project is estimated at EUR 72 600, of which EUR 33 000 is support from the Emission Allowance Auction Instrument.
The project is being implemented in accordance with the Cabinet Regulation of 12 June 2018 No. 333 “Regulations of the Open Tender “Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction through Smart Urban Technologies” for projects financed by the Emission Allowance Auctioning Instrument”.
