Stop on request

“Stop on request” has been introduced on twenty bus routes outside central Riga. This means that the bus driver only stops at such a stop if the passenger shows their wish to get off the bus in time by pressing the door opening button or, when at the bus stop, if the passenger is visible to the driver and stands in the stop area by the stop sign. Initially, this is introduced on twenty bus routes at around 300 stops, but in total more than 400 stops have been identified where this could be introduced. This system is already in place in many places in Europe and makes public transport move faster, reducing trip times. “Stop on request” will be introduced on bus routes 4, 7,10, 11, 12, 16, 23, 25, 26, 28, 29, 32, 34, 43, 47, 50, 54, 55, 57 and 60. The schedules of these bus routes are adjusted accordingly, with shorter journey times between stops on request.
