“Rīgas satiksme” announced procurement for the performance of construction works at the intersection of 11 November Embankment and 13 January Street
Implementing one of the biggest projects of “Rīgas satiksme” “Adaptation of Riga tram infrastructure to the low-floor tram parameters”, a closed tender was announced for the performance of construction works at the intersection of 11 November Embankment and 13 January Street, adapting it to the low-floor tram parameters. The bid submission deadline – May 9, 2022, 15.00.
The winners of the procurement will have to secure reconstruction of the tram infrastructure at the intersection of 11 November Embankment and 13 January Street, which includes reconstruction and renewal of the rail track structures – approximately 0,24 km in the sectors of both directions, adaptation of the catenary network and other related construction works. On the whole, by adaptation of the tram infrastructure to the low-floor tram parameters, the level of safety in the area of switches will be improved and the time of crossing of the intersection will be reduced. The construction works envisage replacement of the existing manually switchable single switches with the automatically controlled two-way switches compliant with the operational requirements of the low-floor tram wagons, and implementation of the other measures related to the improvement of the tram movement and rail track operating conditions.
The planned construction works of the procurement shall be performed in accordance with the solution of the construction project “Adaptation of the tram infrastructure to the low-floor tram parameters. Intersection of 11 November Embankment and 13 January Street.” developed by SIA “BRD projekts”.
The procurement procedure is a closed tender which will take place in two stages: at the moment, the first stage has been announced, during which the candidates’ experience will be evaluated and the compliance of their ecomomic and financial condition. Whereas, during the second stage, the eligible candidates after receipt of the invitation, will have to submit technical and financial offers for the performance of the procurement contract. The start of the second stage is planned for summer this year, conclusion of the contract with the winner – for September, 2022, thereby securing construction work completion by the middle of summer 2023.

It has already been reported that within the framework of the project “Adaptation of Riga tram infrastructure to the low-floor tram parameters”, on March 21, 2022, procurements for the performance of construction works were announced at the intersection of the line sections of tram No. 5 and No. 7. Furthermore, planned construction works at the intersection of 11 November Embankment and 13 January Street and construction works within the construction projects related to five substations of “Rīgas satiksme” will also be performed within the framework of the abovementioned project, total costs of this project will be approximately 55 million euro, of which 85% of the eligible costs will be co-financed by the Cohesion Fund, i.e. indicatively 38.78 million euro, and 16.29 million euro will be co-financed by “Rīgas satiksme”.
