“Rīgas satiksme” makes preparations for enforcement of Whistleblowers Law
“Rīgas satiksme” is now actively working to build its internal whistleblowing system, as well as supplements internal regulations to be fully ready for May 1, when the Whistleblowers Law will come into force.
For now, “Rīgas satiksme” has developed the procedure of pseudonymizing and protecting the whistleblower’s personal data. As is known, according to the draft law, the whistleblower is a person who signals about violations at his/her workplace in the public interest. It is in the public interest to signal about the embezzlement of funds and property, as well as about corruption, tax evasion, risks for public health, safety of environment and construction works.
“Rīgas satiksme” has also developed and supplemented the Code of Ethics and the Risk management policy document, and will inform its staff about the Whistleblowers Law early in May.
It shall be noted that “Rīgas satiksme” has already implemented several mechanisms enabling the company’ s employees to signal about possible violations. Any employee can call the answer phone and leave his/her message, which will be checked. This can be done also anonymously. The employees can also leave written information in information boxes available in the company’s structural units or write quality statements.
