"Rīgas satiksme" reminds about reconstruction works of tram route No. 6 starting on April 14
Given the worn rail tracks, as well as the outdated general infrastructure, including power supply and tram stop platforms, which do not meet the requirements of low-floor tram traffic, reconstruction works will start on April 14 this year to last until mid-2013.
As a result of the reconstruction, Riga will get the necessary low-floor tram infrastructure, including the replacement of rail tracks, which will reduce the level of noise and vibration caused by trams. The power supply will be also updated to meet the standards of low-floor trams. Tram-stop platforms will be also adjusted for the needs of low-floor trams, widened, raised and provided with sheds, so that passengers could get into/off trams comfortably.
Starting from April 14 and throughout the reconstruction period, trams No. 3 and 6 will run from the city centre to tram stop Secondary school No. 45, where passengers will be offered to transfer to bus No. 6T, which will run to the crossing of Brīvības gatve and Juglas Street.
On the way back bus No. 6T will run from the crossing of Brīvības gatve and Juglas Street to tram stop "Secondary school No. 45", where passengers will be able to transfer to trams No. 3 and 6.
Given these changes, schedules of trams No. 3, 6 and bus No. 6T will be amended accordingly and harmonised for passengers to be able to transfer from one vehicle to another comfortably and reach the necessary destination (the traffic intensity will not change). The transfer is likely to make the trip 4 minutes longer on the average.
Buses No. 6T will run from tram stop "Secondary school No. 45" to Jugla terminal as follows: in Ropažu Street to Apes Street, then in Apes Street, Brīvības gatve to Jugla overpass, where they will turn around. When running in this direction, buses will stop and let passengers into/off at the stops of other public transport routes located in Brīvības gatve.
From Jugla buses No. 6T will run in Brīvības gatve to Ropažu Street, then in Ropažu Street to tram stop "Secondary school No. 45". When running in this direction, buses will stop and let passengers into/off at the public transport stops located in Brīvības gatve, whereas in Ropažu Street there will be temporary bus stops parallel to tram stops for passengers to get into/off the buses.
Those passengers using tram stop "Academy of Sports" should take into account that there are no bus stops here; therefore they should plan their trips in advance.
Those passengers who use tickets for a certain number of trips or buy tickets from driver, including tickets for pets, should take into account that they have not to register their trip or buy another ticket when transferring from tram 3 or 6 to bus No. 6T (or vice versa) (registered/ bought ticket will be valid for 90 minutes in the same direction).
Those passengers who use 1-month, 5-day, 3-day, 24-hour tickets for trams, enjoy 100 % fare discount granted by Riga municipality, as well as use 1-month ticket for tram route No. 6, are to register their e-tickets when transferring from tram 3 or 6 to bus No. 6T (or vice versa).
Those passengers who do not use e-tickets but have to receive zero-tickets from driver (disabled persons of group 1 and 2, disabled persons until the age of 18 years and persons accompanying a disabled person of group 1 or a disabled person until the age of 18) shall receive a zero-ticket from driver (or from ticket vending machines in new trams) after each transfer from a tram to a bus (or vice versa).
Those passengers using 1-month tickets for tram route No. 6 should take into account: if they want to start a new ticket for tram 6 at the beginning of a month, but live where bus No. 6T runs, they can register their tickets in bus No. 6T, and the ticket will be also valid for tram route No. 6.
Those passengers using 1-month tickets for tram route No. 3 have not to register their e-tickets when transferring from tram No. 3 to bus No 6T. If a passenger starts the trip in bus No. 6T, the trip is not to be registered (the ticket is used like before, where tram route No. 3 overlaps with tram route No. 3).
Those passengers having bought 1-month tickets for buses may also use them on bus route No. 6T (including one-route tickets where the two routes overlap). When using such tickets in bus No. 6T, no registration is required.
