“Rīgas satiksme” to replace voice announcing stops in public transport

The voice announcing stops in “Rīgas satiksme” public transport will be soon replaced and there will be one voice announcing stops in all trams, trolleybuses and buses, not two, as before.

Today passengers in public transport can hear two voices announcing stops in public transport – a man’s voice in electric transport and a woman’s voice in buses. The voices were recorded in the early 2000s, but now a single public transport stop announcing system will be put in place, and the voice of Artis Robežnieks will be heard in all the vehicles.

It is planned that the voice will be replaced until the end of this year, 2000 names of public transport stops will be recorded and replaced in nearly 1000 public transport units.

At the same time, testing of a new announcement system will start in new trams, trolleybuses and buses. The vehicle’s route number and direction will be heard outside the vehicle approaching the stop, which will make much easier receiving information about the vehicle’s route for people with vision problems.
