“Rīgas satiksme” will test another electric bus
“Rīgas satiksme” continues emission-free transport tests in city traffic. From August 24, another electric bus - Solaris nUrbino 18 Electric - will start test drives. Initially, the bus will run on route No. 12, but will also be assigned to other routes for more complete testing.
This Solaris electric bus is 18 meters long in grey and white colour. Despite the visual difference from the other “Rīgas satiksme” buses, the test electric bus is subject to all the usual rules of public transport use. After boarding, passengers must register the trip immediately or purchase a ticket from the driver.
In order to gain the widest and most versatile experience, “Rīgas satiksme” tests transport vehicles of several manufacturers. The test runs are now completed by “Scania Citywide” electric bus.
In the next five to seven years, “Rīgas satiksme” will have to replace about 250 buses and some of them will have to be replaced by zero-emission transport. The use of electric buses requires new knowledge and experience. In cooperation with the manufacturers of electric buses and hydrogen buses, “Rīgas satiksme” conducts testing to verify during test drives the suitability of energy storage solutions for the route network, charging solutions and the impact of driving habits on energy consumption.
