“Rīgas satiksme” will test the electric bus
From August 12, “Rīgas satiksme” will test the “Scania Citywide” electric bus. Initially, the bus will run on bus route No. 12, but in order to perform more complete testing, it will be assigned to other routes as well.
The electric bus is white and will visually differ from other “Rīgas satiksme” buses, however, as in any vehicle, also in the electric bus, passengers must register the trip or buy a ticket from the driver immediately after boarding. The stops will be announced by the driver.
In the next five to seven years, “Rīgas satiksme“ will have to replace about 250 buses and some of them will have to be replaced by zero-emission transport. As previously reported, in March this year, “Rīgas satiksme” invited the manufacturers of electric buses and hydrogen buses to cooperate in testing. Currently, Scania Latvia (Scania Citywide) and Solaris Bus & Coach Latvia (Solaris nUrbino 18 Electric) offered their electric bus for test rides, the tests of which are planned to be started in the next few days.
The use of electric buses requires new knowledge and experience, which can be gained both by constantly monitoring market development and by conducting practical tests in urban traffic. During such test runs, it is necessary to verify the suitability of energy storage solutions for the route network, charging solutions and the impact of driving habits on energy consumption. The tests are intended to be carried out as a continuous market study for planned public procurements.
