A new concept of “Rīgas satiksme” public transport ticket and service payment system has been developed
The working group established in the Riga City Council has completed work on the development of a concept for a new, modern and convenient system of payment for tickets and services in “Rīgas satiksme” public transport. It is expected that passengers will be able to pay for the trip online using both bank payment cards and smartphones. Based on the mentioned concept, “Rīgas satiksme” will carry out further activities for the implementation of the system, initially organizing a market research, and after the analysis of the results - a procurement procedure.
Vilnis Ķirsis, Deputy Chairman of the Riga City Council, “Rigans and guests of the city deserve modern and convenient payment options in Riga public transport, furthermore, it is very important that the new system is cost justifiable and transparent. Also, when implementing the new ticket system, it is necessary to think more broadly and secure that the payment system operating in Riga public transport can also be integrated into intercity transport.”
Dzineta Innusa, Chairman of the Board of “Rīgas satiksme”, "Currently, a concept and a technical specification for the implementation of the new public transport ticket and service payment system has been prepared, therefore an open market research will be launched in the coming weeks, within which we hope to find out technical solutions of potentially interested parties, proposed deadlines and other issues that will help to prepare the documentation for an open and transparent procurement procedure. The above-mentioned activities will be very extensive and complex, that is why we anticipate that they may last about a year, and the implementation of the new system will definitely take some time.”
