Board of "Rīgas acs" approved

On July 25 the board of "Rīgas satiksme" decided to establish a new subsidiary, "Rīgas acs", and approved its board including Anita Gaile, Dmitrijs Perlovs and Guntars Zeipe.

As reported earlier, 170 candidates applied for the board membership of "Rīgas acs", 30 of them met the requirements and were shortlisted for further evaluation. During the following interviews 23 candidates withdrew from the contest because of the salary and one candidate found another job. As a result, six candidates participated in the final stage, and the three most suitable ones were chosen for the board.

The board of "Rīgas satiksme" has ordered "Rīgas acs" to develop the new structure, as well as the necessary documentation of the new company in a few months time.

Rīgas acs has been established to develop an integrated information system which is due to provide quality and safe public transport services. The system is expected to decrease the number of public transport delays (deviations from timetables) and, given the scope of planned measures, to increase the number of passengers who chose public transport as the best means of transportation in Riga. It shall be mentioned that so far the operations of "Rīgas satiksme" have not been directly linked with information technologies and the company does not plan any IT-related operations either, whereas  "Rīgas acs" is focused on providing and maintenance of an integrated information system with the necessary quality level.

Apart from collecting and analysing data for internal use, the new company also plans to keep passengers better informed about situation on public transport routes and transfer possibilities to other means of transportation or routes. Extra safety will be also provided by introducing video monitoring inside and outside public transport vehicles, in order to prevent inadequate behaviour of passengers and acts of vandalism. Automatic alcohol control of drivers will be also introduced. The results of such control will allow a transport vehicle to be blocked and control services to be informed in case of detecting alcohol in the driver’s cabin or exhalation.

Passengers’ comfort will be improved by ensuring strict fulfilment of time schedules, operative control of public transport vehicles in case of accidents, delays, traffic jams and other emergency situations.

Passengers will be timely informed about public transport schedules, intervals between routes and stops; they will be also rapidly provided with all the necessary additional information, e.g. about possible transfers at the coming stop, there will be also the possibility of forecasting and tracking down the arrivals of public transport.
