By the beginning of the new school year, "Rīgas satiksme" will provide 15 buses to the city's schools
On Monday, 15 August, the Mayor of Riga Nil Ushakov visited the company and looked at the first prepared buses. The Mayor informed everyone that the buses will first be received by educational institutions that have a lot of sports departments, choirs, dance groups, etc. For now, the schools who will receive the said vehicles are being determined. Moreover, the municipality will provide the necessary number of bus drivers. 'We will see how the project goes at the beginning – what the bus load is, which schools need them the most, and then we will decide on the continuation of the project,' said N.Ushakov.
Since 2013, the company "Rīgas satiksme" has been receiving 35 new higher-capacity buses annually, thus in the city route network the need for vehicles of such capacity is decreasing. Currently, 15 midibuses have been removed from operating on the public transport routes, thus it is possible to offer them to Riga schools. All the buses are in good condition and are safe to be used by educational institutions.
