Clients of “Rīgas satiksme” are aware that weather conditions influence public transport traffic

The results of the opinion poll carried out in February on the website of “Rīgas satiksme” show that clients are aware of the fact that weather conditions influence public transport traffic. In January, when traffic in the city was affected by intensive snowing, 61% of respondents noticed longer traffic jams and delays in public transport traffic.

A majority of respondents (61% or 674) noted that weather conditions in January and February influenced the traffic of public transport which they used. 17% of respondents reckoned with the possibility that snowfalls or thaw may influence public transport departure times. In the above period, 15% of respondents did not notice significant changes in public transport traffic, but 7% did not pay attention to this factor. 1103 respondents participated in the website poll in total.

Late in October 2015 “Rīgas satiksme” launched an information campaign to explain what causes public transport delays. One of the causes is weather conditions, including snowfalls, rains, thaws etc. Other factors which do not depend from the company include traffic jams, road accidents and various road repair works. “Rīgas satiksme” calls on clients to be tolerant and take into account the factors influencing public transport traffic.
