First five electric buses delivered
On the morning of 7 November, the first five new electric buses arrived at Rīgas satiksme’s 7th bus fleet. The journey from Poland, which was more than 1000 km long, was made on a trailer. Now the buses are off the trailers and have already driven the first metres into the territory. After full testing, these electric buses will be able to replace the old diesel buses that are both technically and morally outdated.
There are various steps to get the new vehicles. Before being assigned on regular passenger services, a number of essential preparations have to be made, such as various types of inspections and additional equipment. The buses also do test runs. If there are no major delays in these processes, the first buses delivered buses could be carrying passengers within the next month.
In the meantime, work on the testing and acceptance of the remaining electric buses at the manufacturer’s factory will continue. The delivery of these electric buses to Riga is planned to be organised gradually over the next few weeks.
Rīgas satiksme has declared Solaris Bus & Coach Sp. z o.o. as the winner of the supply of electric buses and their spare parts. Currently a contract is signed with Solaris Bus & Coach Sp. z o.o. for the supply of 35 electric buses and spare parts.
The purchase of the electric buses is carried out within the project “Purchase of electric buses for Riga City” (No. 4.5.1.2/22/I/002) co-financed by the Cohesion Fund of the European Union. The total cost of the project is estimated at EUR 19.18 million, including Cohesion Fund co-financing – EUR 16.06 million.
