First online information boards installed at stop “13th January Street”
„Rīgas satiksme” informs that the first two electronic online information boards are installed at stop “13th January Street”. 11 information boards in total will be installed at public transport stops in Riga until autumn, and another four boards may be installed until the end of the year. The boards will display the real time when public transport is expected to arrive at the stop.
All public transport of “Rīgas satiksmes” is equipped with the automatic vehicle location and traffic control system (AVLS), which locates the vehicle and measures its average speed on the route. Based on this, the electronic board will receive information about the expected arrival time of the vehicle at this stop.
This year “Rīgas satiksme” will install information boards of various types and sizes at public stops to test them and choose the most appropriate ones to be used in the city. For example, stops serving several routes and types of public transport will be equipped with larger boards, but those with lower load will be provided with energy efficient boards of a smaller size.
The information online boards will be installed at the stops that have the highest passenger flow, are most frequently used by the city guests and have the necessary technical infrastructure. The boards are installed to provide passengers with online information about the arrival of public transport vehicles to the stop.
