From September 1, the procedure of boarding the public transport through the front doors only will be renewed on several routes
“Rīgas satiksme” informs that, from September 1, on 11 public transport routes – of trolleybus No. 1 and 13 and bus No. 10, 20, 28, 34, 35, 43, 47, 54 and 60 – the procedure of boarding the public transport through the front doors only, but the exiting through the middle or back doors, will be renewed. This procedure will be introduced on two new bus routes as well – buses No. 57 and 59. Thus, from September 1, such procedure will be established on 13 public transport routes.
The purpose of this procedure is to change the habits of passengers, so that they register each trip, to reduce the number of ticketless passengers, as well as to carry out accurate passenger registration, which must be ensured in accordance with the laws and regulations of the Republic of Latvia. In addition, with this procedure, it is possible to limit the number of persons who travel by public transport wearing dirty or smelly clothing.
Trips will have to be registered at consoles next to the driver, thus enabling the driver to follow, whether all the passengers register their trips. For the passengers with prams and wheelchair users the procedure of boarding will remain unchanged and take place through the middle doors.
Taking care of the safety of the employees and passengers, the public transport driver's cabins, which were of open type, now are equipped with a special protective glass, therefore additional safety is provided for the driver and the passengers.
The project, in which boarding the public transport is organized through the front doors, was launched on July 8, 2019 with the aim of increasing the number of registered trips by 15%, but the results showed that the number of registered trips on the routes involved in the project increased by more than 20%.
