From today, March 15, several changes in public transport traffic come into effect

"Rīgas satiksme" reminds that from March 15, on several bus routes, as well as on two trolleybus routes, during the busiest morning and evening hours, the number of trips will be increased, reducing traffic intervals, which will allow transportation with 12-meter-long buses, while 18-meter-long buses will be diverted to other routes to increase distancing. In order to reduce the flow of passengers, a temporary parallel bus route - 3A - has been created on the busiest section of bus route No. 3. During the busiest morning hours, bus No. 3A runs on the route “Daugavgrīva - Brīvības boulevard”, but in the evening - on the route “The Freedom monument - Daugavgrīva”. Whereas by reallocating resources and making more efficient use of the resources available to the company, from today, March 15, on bus routes No. 1 and No. 5, long-term trolleybuses, not buses, will carry passengers for a temporary period. The route numbering has been preserved, but in addition to the numbering, the letter A has been added - 1A (“Abrenes Street - Bergi settlement”) and 5A (“Abrenes Street - Mežciems”), respectively.

It is planned, that starting from March 15, in the morning and evening hours the trip interval will be reduced and changes will be made to the weekday traffic schedules in the following bus routes:

In order to ensure coordination of departure time, it is planned to make changes, starting from March 15, in individual departure times of bus routes No 3 and 30 and trolleybus route No 19.

The passengers who have purchased monthly tickets for the bus route No 3 will be able to use it in the new route as well by registering the trip. Similarly, in normal order, monthly travel tickets can be used on the 1A “Abrenes street – Bergi settlement” and 5A “Ābrenes iela – Mežciems” routes.

“Rīgas satiksme” maintains continuous monitoring of the usage of public transport by its passengers, and this procedure is going to remain unchanged. Occupancy data is reported by public transport drivers and gathered from commuter applications. Apart from that, the newest vehicles of “Rīgas satiksme” are fitted with automatic passenger counting systems, which transmit a signal to the traffic operator, allowing prompt reaction and allocation of extra vehicles.

Mitigating the risk of COVID-19 propagation requires the involvement of each individual, so it is vital for everyone to minimize social contacts and refrain from using public transport during the emergency unless this is absolutely necessary.
