Information spread by RMS about “Rīgas satiksme” transferring several of its routes to minibuses is misleading the society
“Rīgas satiksme” informs that information spread by “Rīgas mikroautobusu satiksme” (RMS) that “Rīgas satiksme” is going to transfer several of its routes to minibuses for economy reasons is misleading the society.
Indeed, the Interim Board of “Rīgas satiksme” met the management of “Rīgas mikroautobusu satiksme”, yet neither the goal, nor the contents of this meeting correspond to what is said by “Rīgas mikroautobusu satiksme”, says Chairman of “Rīgas satiksme” Interim Board Anrijs Matīss. He adds: “Just the contrary – the Interim Board of “Rīgas satiksme” deems it necessary to revise immediately the route network so that “Rīgas satiksme” should not suffer losses, as well as to revise the benefits granted to passengers who use the routes operated by “Rīgas mikroautobusu satiksme”, which cause losses to “Rīgas satiksme” budget and it is not useful to subsidise increased comfort services from the city budget”.
Considering the need to reduce the company’s losses and replying to the information spread by RMS in the media, today the Interim Board of “Rīgas satiksmes” held an extraordinary meeting and decided to revise, within one week time, the routes which are served by RMS, run parallel to those operated by “Rīgas satiksme” and cause losses to “Rīgas satiksme” by reducing the transportation volumes to the extent and according to the procedure specified by the contract. It was also decided to submit a proposal to Riga City Council to cancel the benefits granted to passengers on the routes operated by RMS.
According to the powers delegated by Riga City Council, “Rīgas satiksme” is supervising the network of public transport routes in Riga, where 8 tram routes, 17 trolleybus routes and 56 bus routes are operated by “Rīgas satiksme”, and 13 minibus routes, 7 express bus routes and 8 night transport routes are operated by “Rīgas mikroautobusu satiksme”.
