New parking-lots in Old Riga
As part of the ongoing traffic reorganisation in Old Riga, new paid parking-lots will be opened in eight sections of Old Riga street on March 10, bringing the total of streets where such parking-lots are available to 14.
The new parking-lots will be located in Jēkaba Street, between M. Trokšņu Street and M. Pils Street (on the left side), in Meistaru Street, between Amatu Street and Zirgu Street (on the left side) and between Zirgu Street and M. Smilšu Street (on the right side), in Kalēju Street, between Alksnāja Street and Vecpilsētas Street (on the right side), in Vecpilsētas Street, between Kalēju Street and 13 Janvāra Street (on the right side), in Vaļņu street, between Audēju Street and 13 Janvāra street (on the left side), in Minsterejas Street, between Kungu Street and the 11th November Embankment (on the left side), in Kungu Street, between Mārstaļu Street and Kalēju Street (on the left side) and between Kalēju Street and 13 Janvāra street (on the left side all along the street and on the right side from the middle of the street), in Bīskapa gāte, between Miesnieku Street and M. Muzeja Street (on the right side) and between Palasta Street and Gūtenberga Street (on the right side).
As mentioned before, last week parking-lots were opened in six streets of Old Riga, including Grēcinieku Street, Kungu Street, Smilšu Street, Zirgu Street, Vaļņu Street and Jēkaba Street. In these parking-lots, payments will be accepted by means of SMS or resident’s cards.
The amendments provide for the establishment of paid municipal parking-lots in the area of Old Riga (Vecrīga). The parking tariff at the paid municipal parking-lots in the old city is as follows: LVL 5 for the first hour and LVL 8 for each following hour of using a municipal parking-lot, parking-lots will be operative every day from 6.00 till 24.00. The residents of the old city, whose domicile address coincides with the address stated in the motor vehicle registration certificate, can submit an application to RP SIA Rīgas satiksme and receive a resident’s card. The price of the card is LVL 60 per month.
The regulations on using parking-lots (paragraph 5.1.2 of the binding regulations) provide that after placing the vehicle at a paid parking-lot a customer may choose one of the payment methods set forth in the above binding regulations. Paragraph 5.1.4 stipulates that, when using SMS-payments in paid parking-lots and after placing the car at the parking-lot, the customer has to send on SMS on starting to pay for the parking service and stating the vehicle number and the tariff area. When leaving the parking-lot, the customer has to send an SMS on finishing the use of the parking-lot and stating the vehicle number. In case of SMS-payments, the vehicle must have a well-seen sticker at its windscreen.
