Riga residents are very satisfied with public transport
In May 2011 "SKDS" conducted an opinion poll to measure the satisfaction level of "Rīgas satiksme" clients, in which Riga residents were asked to evaluate the services provided by the municipal public transportation company.
"The results of the opinion poll were not surprising. In recent years, the local government and its leadership have worked purposefully to achieve the results which we see now in the evaluation given by the city residents. Renovation of the rolling stock, improvement of service culture, optimisation of public transport routes, taking into consideration recommendations of residents, and many other issues have been always in the focus of the local government’s attention," said Vadims Baraņņiks, the head of Riga City Council’s Communication and Transport Affairs Committee.
Arnis Kaktiņš, Director of "SKDS": "The level of satisfaction shown by Riga residents for services of "Rīgas satiksme" is very high. The major challenge for the company will be to try keeping this level rather than to raise it."
The analysis of the opinion poll results show that the level of customers’ satisfaction with public transport in Riga has reached the highest level since 1997, when the first opinion poll was conducted on this issue.
In 2011, we also see an increase in numbers of passengers using public transport every day or almost daily, their share reaching 50%. Nearly 55% of customers on workdays use public transport more than twice daily, which is more than in 2008.
In recent months, we have also witnessed an increase in the level of city residents’ satisfaction with the e-ticket system, as 81% are now evaluating the system as convenient or very convenient.
62% of those Riga residents using public transport pointed out that they need less than five minutes to reach a public transport stop, 89% of public transport users are satisfied with the availability of information about public transport, 81% are satisfied with the planning of public transport routes and 78% highly appreciate the level of comfort provided by public transport.
The customers were also asked about the level of their satisfaction with the work of "Rīgas satiksme" customer service centres. 89% of respondents said that they are fully satisfied or rather satisfied with service centres.
