"Rīgas satiksme" launches a new campaign against vandalism "Please, don’t daub!"
"Rīgas satiksme" continues to fight against vandalism in public transport by launching a new campaign Please, don’t daub!, which will also involve pupils of Riga schools. The goal of the campaign is to remind about the seriousness of the vandalism problem and to call on the public to get involved in reducing the number of vandalism cases.

The anti-vandalism campaign Handwork… it shows!, which started in April 2011, was successful, as it resulted in reducing the damage caused to public transport:

The data of Rīgas satiksme for the first three months of 2012 show that the number of vandalism cases decreased against the same period last year. 361 acts of vandalism were reported in the first three months of 2012 (broken, scratched glasses of doors and windows, vehicles daubed inside and outside, cut seats, stolen emergency hammers and other damage). The direct damage from vandalism in public transport in the first three months of 2012 amounted to LVL 22, 331.71.

Given the fact that one of the categories of vandals are young people, this year the campaign of Rīgas satiksme involves also schoolchildren, calling on them to change their habits and attitude to vandalism. When preparing the campaign, representatives of Rīgas satiksme met pupils of forms 4-12 in three Riga schools – gymnasium No.4, secondary school No.6 and secondary school No. 49. Representatives of Rīgas satiksme told pupils about vandalism in public transport, its consequences and how much work needs to be invested to repair the damage. During these meetings, Rīgas satiksme also offered schoolchildren to sign an appeal not damage public transport. 196 schoolchildren signed the appeal. Their signatures will be used in posters which will be placed inside public transport and at public transport stops (see Annex).

Rīgas satiksme calls on everybody to take an active part in the campaign and to report on cases when public transport is damaged to police or to Rīgas satiksme by toll-free phone 80001919.
