Rīgas satiksme launches campaign "Let’s be polite!"
The campaign Let’s be polite!, which Rīgas satiksme organizes in partnership with the Directorate of Road Traffic Safety (CSDD) and Pilsētas līnijas, will consist of two parts. Initially, there will be large stickers on the back of public transport vehicles, which will call on drivers to be polite on the road. Other stickers, thanking drivers for giving way to public transport and warning cyclists of the risk of overtaking a public transport vehicle from the right side, will remain on the backs of public transport vehicles also after the end of the campaign.
Every day Rīgas satiksme runs nearly 1000 buses, trolleybuses and trams, therefore during this campaign Rīgas satiksme will draw particular attention to explaining the need of observing the rules of politeness to public transport drivers.
Most of public transport runs on public roads, which they have to share with other means of transportation. Although traffic regulations set priority for public transport going out of public transport stops, there will be a much better effect if drivers show mutual respect and thank one another.
Every month Rīgas satiksme carries about 12 million passengers. Those drivers who give way to public transport vehicles leaving stops or merging left/right also help passengers to reach their destination faster and make the traffic in the city smoother.
