"Rīgas satiksme" launches campaign "Think again – buy ticket!"

"Rīgas satiksme" is launching today information campaign Think again – buy ticket! The goal of the campaign is to address those passengers who do not pay fare and to urge them to change their habits, as well as to inform passengers about the effects of fare dodging.

Statistics of Rīgas satiksmes suggest that every month some 6000 – 7000 passengers on the average are fined for fare dodging. Given the ratio between the total number of Rīgas satiksme public transport runs and the number of vehicles checked, fare dodgers are likely to make up to 10% from the total number of passengers. Fare dodging causes damage not only to people around us and the environment in which we live, but also to fare dodgers themselves. These losses can be measured in different units: unbought trams, unbuilt stops, overcrowded vehicles etc. That is why the campaign urges passengers to Think again, because to buy ticket means to act not only honestly, but also responsibly.

During the campaign Rīgas satiksme will address passengers using not only traditional informing methods, such as posters and videos in public transport vehicles and information at public transport stops, but also banners at www.rigassatiksme.lv. The campaign will last several months and will be aimed at persuading passengers that buying tickets is necessary.
