Rīgas satiksme signs contract with CFCA for purchase of 17 electric buses and establishment of 7 fast charging points

Rīgas satiksme and the Central Finance and Contracting Agency (CFCA) have signed a contract for co-financing from the Recovery Fund of the European Union (EU) for the implementation of the project “Emission Reduction in the State City of Riga – Supply of Electric Buses and Development of Electric Charging Points”. The project foresees the purchase of 17 new electric buses and the establishment of 7 fast charging points in Riga. The total planned cost of the project is EUR 16.7 million, of which EU co-financing is EUR 14.3 million.

Andris Lubāns, Member of the Board of Rīgas satiksme: “Electric buses are an experience that we acquire by operation. New, environmentally friendly buses are already appearing more and more often on various routes, which will reduce the company's operating costs in the long term. Moreover, both emissions and noise levels will be reduced in the city. We are therefore pleased to have signed a contract that will allow us to further expand our fleet with environmentally friendly buses and to continue our work on developing the charging infrastructure and establishing 7 fast charging points.”

The project includes the purchase of 17 new manufactured electric buses to replace the outdated, around 20 year old, buses currently in use. The project will also provide 7 fast charging points, creating a single charging system for electric buses. Two fast charging points will be set up in Abrenes iela, one each in Vecmīlgrāvis, Jugla, Imanta (in the bus park 6 in Kleistu iela), as well as in the transport point in Višķu iela.

The aim of the project is to reduce emissions from public transport services in state city of Riga.

The project will improve the attractiveness of public transport and reduce its impact on the urban environment, as well as contribute to the gradual decarbonisation of public transport by promoting the transition from fossil fuels.

The works will be co-financed by the Recovery Fund of the European Union (EU). Project title “Emission Reduction in the State City of Riga – Supply of Electric Buses and Development of Electric Charging Points” (No. 1.1.1.2.i.1/1/23/I/CFLA/001). The total planned cost of the project is EUR 16.7 million, of which EU co-financing is EUR 14.3 million.
