"Rīgas satiksme" to sign contract on delivery of 125 trolleybuses with "Škoda Electric"
"Rīgas satiksme" has completed a public procurement procedure for the delivery of 125 trolleybuses and announced that it will sign the delivery contract with "Škoda Electric". The contract provides for the delivery of 125 joint 18-meter trolleybuses Škoda 27 TR to "Rīgas satiksme" in five years with the possibility of increasing the number of trolleybuses to be delivered by 38 vehicles. The total contract amount is EUR 131.8 M. The trolleybuses will be bought on credit, and the whole amount will be paid to the manufacturer within eight years upon the delivery.
Rīgas satiksme operates 19 trolleybus routes and carries more than 45 million passengers every year. The most popular trolleybus route is No.15, but the lowest number of passengers is carried by trolleybus No. 20. Rīgas satiksme runs a fleet of 267 trolleybuses, of which 95 are 18 meters long and 172 are 12 meters long. 76 trolleybuses are manufactured in 2009, 62 in 2008, 29 in 2007 and 33 in 2005. The remaining are more than 10 years old.
