Shadow day at "Rīgas satiksme"
Rīgas satiksme receives several shadows taking interest in public transport for a third year in a row. Shadows at tram depot No. 5, bus depot No. 7 and at central dispatchers get to know better how the everyday work is organised and watch how public transport vehicles are being prepared for traffic. Those schoolchildren taking interest in controllers work visit the Control section to see what the day-to-day work of ticket controllers look like.
At the beginning, all the shadows gathered in the company’s administrative building, to become familiar with the company in general – its history, goals and the wide operations field. After the introductory presentation, the shadows followed their leaders to continue exploring the company’s operations.
One of the schoolchildren, 4-former Jēkabs, who dreams of becoming a public transport driver, applied to become a shadow at tram depot No. 5. So, when in a public transport vehicle, Jēkabs follows how the driver works. As for 7-former Evelīna, she visited the central dispatching unit to get more information about the country’s major public transport company. Evelīna wants to know how day-to-day operations are being performed, what the everyday duties of a dispatcher are and how different situations are being solved.
It should be reminded that in January every schoolboy or schoolgirl could apply to become a shadow in Rīgas satiksme. Pupils wanted to become the shadows of public transport drivers, ticket controllers, senior central dispatcher, mechanician and press secretary.
