Shadow days at „Rīgas satiksme”

Shadow days at „Rīgas satiksme”

On February 11 "Rīgas satiksme" was visited by 11 shadows (see a photo by Ilmārs Znotiņš) who wanted to get familiar with the specifics of the company and become the shadows of those employees whose professions they would like to master in the future.

It is for the fifth time that "Rīgas satiksme" receives those shadows who feel interest in public transport. The pupils, who came even from Krimulda and Alūksne this year, will visit tram depot No. 5, bus depot No. 7, Ticket Inspection Division and traffic controllers at the Transportation Unit, where they will get to know how the everyday work of these units is organised, including the preparation and maintenance of public transport vehicles.

At the beginning, the shadows gathered in the administrative building of "Rīgas satiksme" at Vestienas Street, 35, where they were introduced to the lines of business, history, goals and vision of the enterprise, and were also offered souvenirs. After the presentation, the shadows went on a guided tour of bus depot No. 7, where they watched the process of preparing public transport vehicles, as well as met the representatives of the professions they are interested in.

In his application, Mariss, who is a pupil of form 4 and came to visit "Rīgas satiksme" from Krimulda, writes: „I want to learn more about the profession of tram driver,” therefore he and another pupil had an opportunity to get familiar with everyday work of tram depot No. 5 and tram drivers. Another shadow wanted to find out more about everyday work of bus drivers.

Four pupils aged 10-17 wanted to be the shadows of traffic controllers. Alberts, a pupil of Ernst Gluck Alūksne State Gymnasium, wrote: „So far I heard little and knew nothing about the specifics and duties of this profession as well as about the work in "Rīgas satiksme" in general, so I am convinced that the opportunity of being a shadow in your company would be interesting, and, what is most important, useful for me!”

The shadows also wanted to get familiar with the work of ticket inspectors, and Amanda, an 8-former from Salaspils, wrote: „Perhaps at the beginning I was not sure whether I want to be the shadow of a ticket inspector, but finally I understood that I want. She and three other pupils will visit the Ticket Inspection Section at Spīķeru Street 1, where competent employees will tell them about and show them the everyday work of ticket inspectors.
