Three candidates apply for 20 low-floor tram tender
Three offers have been received for 20 low-floor tram tender, whereas 22 potential candidates had shown interest for the tender regulations before submitting their offers. The first stage of the tender was announced on September 14, 2015, and offers could be submitted until 02:00 PM of October 15, 2015.
After receiving the offers, „Rīgas satiksme” will evaluate the conformity of all the candidates to the selection requirements set by the tender regulations. The candidates thato will meet the requirements will be invited to prepare technical and financial offers for the manufacture and delivery of low-floor trams. After that the negotiations procedure will be started, as a result of which the winner of the tender will be chosen.
The tender procedure provides that the winner has to manufacture and deliver 15 three-section and 5 four-section low-floor trams which must be fit for safe operation in the public transport infrastructure existing in Riga city without reconstruction. The fulfilment of the purchase contract to be signed as a result of the tender procedure shall be ensured with the funding attracted by the supplier. The trams shall be suitable for passengers with special needs and restricted mobility capacities.
The new low-floor trams will start running in Riga already in the 2nd half of 2016 by route No. 4 to Imanta. The previous low-floor tender ended in 2008 and was won by „Škoda Transportation”. At present „Rīgas satiksme” operates 26 low-floor trams which run on routes No. 6 and No. 11.
The new low-floor tram tender will not affect the prices of tickets in Riga public transport but will significantly improve the quality of passenger transportation services, particularly for those who use trams every day.
