Three new low-floor trams will run on tram routes No.1 and 11
On tram routes No.1 and 11, passenger transportation will be secured with three new low-floor trams. Whereas by the end of 2021, “Rīgas satiksme” will receive another 17 new trams. Out of total 20 new low-free trams, 15 will be three-section and 5 – four-section trams. Upon receipt of these trams it will be possible to provide solely low-floor trams for tram routes No.1 and 11.
So far, the fleet of “Rīgas satiksme” trams consisted of 169 tram cars, out of which 26 were low-floor, however, when the three abovementioned trams are put into operation, the number of low-floor trams will increase to 29. The average tram age is 31.6 years, consequently, the existing fleet of trams is obsolete, furthermore, during repairs, various serious damages are being ascertained in an increasing number of trams, as a result, the operating costs of these trams have been increasing more and more.
