An open tender for the purchase of electrical equipment for substations has been announced
“Rīgas satiksme” informs that in the course of implementation of the project “Adaptation of the Riga tram infrastructure to the low-floor tram parameters”, an open tender for the purchase of electrical equipment for substations has been announced. Bid submission deadline - February 07, 2022, 15.00.
As a result of the open tender, it is planned to purchase electrical equipment for substation No. 4 in Abrenes Street 13, substation No. 11 in Ķengaraga Street 3a, substation No. 13 in Fridriķa Street 2, substation No. 16 in Slokas Street 54B and substation No. 17 in Aviācijas Street 1C. Replacement and installation of electrical equipment for these energy supply facilities – substations – is one of the measures that will ensure power supply for continuous movement of the low-floor tram in the line section of tram route No. 7 from the Central market to the final point “Ķengarags” and in the line section of tram route No. 5 from the intersection of Slokas Street and Jūrmalas gatve to the final point “Iļģuciems”. Within the framework of the procurement, it is planned to purchase such equipment as medium voltage transformers, medium voltage and low voltage distribution equipment, control equipment, as well as other electrical equipment and cables and related materials.

The result of implementation of the project “Adaptation of the Riga tram infrastructure to the low-floor tram parameters” will facilitate the use of the environmentally friendly public transport and the increase of the number of passengers in the environmentally friendly public transport. Furthermore, there are several environment stability related objectives:
- to increase the speed of the tram traffic;
- to reduce traffic jams;
- to reduce the negative impact of CO2 emission produced by private cars on the environment and air quality;
- to improve the experience of travelling in public transport by improving the quality of rendered services.
In April, 2022, “Rīgas satiksme” is planning to submit a project application to the Central Finance and Contracting Agency to raise co-funding from the European Union Cohesion Fund for the development of the Riga tram infrastructure. Taking into account that the project implementation is planned to be completed by the end of 2023, “Rīgas satiksme” starts the necessary works in time in order to meet the specified deadlines.
